Mohammed inspects designs of 60,000 capacity stadium
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai today viewed designs of the 60,000 capacity Mohammed bin Rashid Stadium, which will be built in Al Aweer area in Dubai.
Sheikh Mohammed inspected various models of the AED 3 billion stadium. He was briefed by Matar Al Tayer, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Sport Council, about the project, the world’s first fully air-conditioned and raised off the ground stadium. The stadium design complies with FIFA’s standards.
Dar Al Handasah was selected as consultant and Perkins + Will as the main contractor for the stadium project.
The stadium will have 60,000 seats. Other facilities include a training hall, 5,000 car park, a sports museum and conference halls.
Sheikh Mohammed applauded the design and ordered execution of the project according to the scheduled timeline.

Mohammed visits Dubai Sports Innovation Lab
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai visited today the Dubai Sports innovation Lab, organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in Meydan hotel.
Sheikh Mohammed, who was accompanied by Matar Al Tayer, Deputy Chairman of the DSC, attended part of the panel discussions and discussed with the participants means to to make sport a key lifestyle activity and an engine for a happy and healthy community.
Al Tayer made a presentation on the goals of the Sports Innovation Lab, the six topics tackled by the Lab and the feedback of different segments of the community through the hashtag: #dubai_sports_pulse.
Under Sheikh Mohammed’s directives, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, approved today 8 recommendations made through the brainstorming sessions during the lab.
The recommendations, to be embedded in the Dubai strategic plan for sports, include establishing the Hamdan bin Mohammed Medal for schools sports, lifting subsidies for football companies by the end of 2021, launching the Hamdan bin Mohammed Initiatives for Community Sports, promoting future sports, establishing Dubai International Centre for Sports Medicine, developing complexes and clubs for women sports, establishing Dubai Sports Museum and launching a programme for academies champions.
