Sharjah Media City site has recently been made a free zone authority. This means that business can now have an additional place to hold operations in Sharjah without worrying about the taxes.
The site received its free zone status after the Ruler of Sharjah and Supreme Council Member His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi issued an administrative decision on making it a free zone authority.
This decision has been made effective from the date of its issuance and is expected to be published in the official Gazette soon. The government has also instructed all competent authorities to carry out their respective functions regarding the mentioned decision.
His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has also issued a law on regulating the objectives and mandate of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) which states that the SRTA will have a corporate body status and will be authorised to exercise its legal rights to achieve its objectives.
The SRTA will only be based in the city of Sharjah but it may establish branches in the other areas of the emirates per the approval of Sharjah Executive Council. It will provide land and water transport, along with a modern network of public transport equipped with contemporary technology.
The authority will also be empowered to manage road and relevant construction projects by conducting the required studies. It will also plan, design and carry out maintenance works of roads, bridges and tunnels in ways that conform safety and security guidelines.
